Head Coach: Mr. Mark Gervais — Coach Gervais started his wrestling career at East Leyden High School under the legendary Coach Farina and went on to coach at Truman State University and Eastern Illinois University. He has been inducted into the Illinois Coaches’ Hall of Fame and the Marist High School Hall of Fame. Coach Gervais has coached several Junior National teams.
Varsity Assistant Coaches: Mr. Brendan Heffernan* — Coach Heffernan is a two-time state place winner took third at Junior Nationals. He wrestled at the University of Illinois and presently teaches English at Marist. Coach Heffernan holds both the Most Takedowns in a Season and in a Career for Marist. Of note, the Heffernans come from a large wrestling family, with one of their brothers presently coaching at the University of Illinois and another at St. Edward’s High School in Ohio.
Mr. Brad Janecek* — With the program since 1998, Coach Janecek was a state qualifier and graduated from Governor’s State University majoring in English.
Mr. Patrick Heffernan* — The twin brother of Coach Brendan, Coach Pat placed sixth in state for Marist and also wrestled at the University of Illinois. He holds the Most Escapes in a Season record for Marist.
Dr. Nicholas Rizzo* — Coach Rizzo wrestled at the University of Chicago and received his M.D. from Northwestern. He is also the author of the book “Championship Nutrition and Performance: The Wrestler’s Guide to Lifestyle, Diet and Healthy Weight Control”, and is a contributing author to “The Arsenal: The Wrestler’s Training Log” by NCAA Champion Alan Fried.
Mr. Michael Torres — Coach Torres was a three-time state qualifier for Morton High School and wrestled at Drake University and Illinois State University. Coach Torres also has additional Greco-Roman experience.
